WE CONSTRUCT AND INSTALL MODULAR BUILDINGS

Did you know CSI constructed the media village at the Sydney Olympics? Refurbished demountable buildings were fitted out and installed on-time and to specification. The experience we gained from this and later projects, plus our long-term partnership with NSW Department of Education & Communities, refurbishing their demountable classrooms was the catalyst for our modular building program.

This experience has been enhanced by collaborating with architects, engineers, sustainable development consultants, industry organisations, suppliers, contractors and specialist consultants in the ongoing production of our modular buildings.

Most of the construction is carried out by inmates at St. Heliers Correctional Centre under the supervision of trade qualified Overseers. Inmates have developed skills in plastering, painting, tiling, frame, truss and roof erection, exterior cladding and plumbing and electrical rough-in and fit-out. Qualifications inmates achieve at our modular building business unit include Construction White Card, Cert II and III in Building and Construction, Fork Lift, Waterproofing, Working at Heights, Crane Operator and Dogman tickets. All plumbing and electrical works are certified by licensed tradespersons.

CSI continues to advance its construction capabilities, and is now making prefabricated modular cells with accompanying fixtures to house inmates for a variety of correctional purposes in NSW.

THE INTENSIVE LEARNING CENTRE

In collaboration with its architects, CSI constructed

and installed the Intensive Learning Centre at the Mid North Coast Correctional Centre.

The prefabricated design features four classrooms, library, teacher’s office and kitchen. CSI also supervised the plumbing and electrical fit-out, constructed the outdoor learning spaces and timber decking, plus landscaped the site. CSI's furniture division provided all office and educational furniture.

The buildings were prefabricated and constructed at; St Heliers Correctional Centre by Aboriginal inmates within the Gundi employment pathway program.

REFURBISHING DEMOUNTABLES FOR NSW EDUCATION

There is approximately 4,500 demountable buildings in current use in NSW Department of Education and Training schools and TAFE Colleges across NSW. CSI manages, maintains and refurbishes demountable school classroom buildings for NSW Department of Education and Training in business units based at Goulburn and Cessnock Correctional Centres.

The service includes cabinet making, welding, cabling, painting, glazing and repairing damaged walls and ceilings. The business units also deliver re-roofing, re-wiring and air conditioning. The offender skills developed in this workplace include Workcover Certificates of Competency in Dogman, Crane and Forklift. Employers seeking work-ready, skilled construction labour have found these business units to be a promising resource.
